Happy blogiversary to me.

This little blog of mine was born three years ago, on January 27th, 2004.

On January 26th, my sister said to me, “Why don’t you have a blog?” “Why don’t I?” I asked myself, and thus a(nother) blog came to be.

My husband said, “You should name it Finslippy.” “That’s an excellent idea,” I said, “and besides, it’s not like anyone who doesn’t know what Finslippy means would ever read it.”

A couple of years before, I had a dream in which I was asked to re-name dolphins. “Dolphin,” said the mysterious language people coming to me for advice, wasn’t evocative enough.

I thought for a minute. “Flipperpuppy?” I offered.

Too hard to say, they said.

“Finslippy, then,” I said, and they said, “Perfect.”

So there you are, all you people who’ve waited so long to know what the name means. It’s not as exciting as you had hoped for, I know.

I can’t even begin to say how much this blog has brought me: so much, and so much more than I ever could have expected. Thank you all for reading, and commenting, and being part of my life.

I was perfectly happy letting that word be a mystery of fanciful invention on the edge of my imagination, so I was a little sad to see it explained. On the plus side, its origin is cooler than I could have guessed.

It will forever be counted to my credit that I read your blog daily.

One of my favs. Thank you thank you thank you for writing for us, and inspiring those of us who would like to write like you.
Congratulations & Happy Anniversary. Your blog should be required reading for every BFA candidate to understand how to clearly focus on a subject - and how to cleverly disect whatever you choose to target - while being completely entertaining at the same time. Hope to be reading you for many more years.

Now I can die happy, knowing the True Meaning.

Thanks for your great stories. I also think you made the best Red Stapler model of all time (don't tell the others).

My mother and I have speculated what Finslippy meant. I'm glad to finally know.

I truly enjoy your blog. You've held a place on my "Crushes" blogroll since I started blogging. You never fail to make me laugh.

Happy Blogiversary!

I knew it was dolphins! I've been telling people that for years.

Not really. I loved not knowing but the story is good. Now we can't run the 'what is finslippy' contest?

You have been a bright spot in my day too many times to count. Thanks for writing.

That explanation surpassed my expectations! And it had dolphins! (I love dolphins so much I have one tattooed on my left butt cheek!)

I so heart you Alice - you are a true treasure to the blogging world.

Now I know what it is, and I still like it.

Happy blogiversary!

Love, Guido

P.S. Briane - those guys that figured out DNA (Watson and Crick), stole the info from a lady:)! But she won the Nobel Prize anyway for something completly different.

Yay smart ladies!!!

...and here I thought it was just a nonsensical name. Yeah! It really MEANS something. There is a God...

Well, let me be the, um, seventy-second to wish you a happy blogiversary. Did you know that, traditionally, the gift for a third anniversary is leather?

Thank YOU!

You are one of my favorite moments of the day.

Happy anniversary.

Happy third! Having been reading blogs only a short while, (yours was my first!!) I imagined that everyone else actually knew what Finslippy was and the "you" in your tagline was meant only for me. And now I know that it was a collective "you"! Thanks for your great writing.
