Happy blogiversary to me.

This little blog of mine was born three years ago, on January 27th, 2004.

On January 26th, my sister said to me, “Why don’t you have a blog?” “Why don’t I?” I asked myself, and thus a(nother) blog came to be.

My husband said, “You should name it Finslippy.” “That’s an excellent idea,” I said, “and besides, it’s not like anyone who doesn’t know what Finslippy means would ever read it.”

A couple of years before, I had a dream in which I was asked to re-name dolphins. “Dolphin,” said the mysterious language people coming to me for advice, wasn’t evocative enough.

I thought for a minute. “Flipperpuppy?” I offered.

Too hard to say, they said.

“Finslippy, then,” I said, and they said, “Perfect.”

So there you are, all you people who’ve waited so long to know what the name means. It’s not as exciting as you had hoped for, I know.

I can’t even begin to say how much this blog has brought me: so much, and so much more than I ever could have expected. Thank you all for reading, and commenting, and being part of my life.

Happy Blogiversary!I've always thought it was F'in-Slippy.

Now, of course, every time I'm at the beach & a school goes by, I'll say, "Look kids! Finslippy!! Out there, past the breakers!"

Wow! That's a great dream. Like Kate above, I had assumed the name was a Henry-ism. I think a banner redesign is in order.

Now, what would you say if the mysterious language people asked you to rename sharks?

What a fun story. Dreams are so crazy. And I love that the language people came to you for a new word. That dream came true, and now we ALL know what finslippy means!

At the risk of being pedestrian (or repeating a comment I may have missed...), but I'll say it -- now that the secret's out, you should do a dolphin themed redesign! Woohoo! (My husband -- who knows you mostly as "Henry's mom" and I both think that's a freaking cool way to name your blog.... We are a simple people.)

I wonder, did you suddenly wake up thinking a third anniversary gift for us would be the story of the finslippy? Thank you, thank you!

And for the record, I never thought it was fins-lippy. That's just odd.

Happy Anniversary! I feel so priviledged to know about your dolphin dream. If I ever meet a real live dolphin, I'll whisper 'finslippy' to him and maybe he'll beckon for me to hop on his back and ride off into the sunset.

I have to say, I have been reading for well over a year (or maybe even two), and I seriously thought the meaning of 'Finslippy' was just over my head!

I've never commented before because, well, I'm shy... and Canadian. But I had to let you know how glad I am to finally know what the hell it means! :-)
