Reasons I am queasy with excitement: the short version.

1. I am going to Amsterdam.

1a. With Melissa!

1b. And my dad! (Who is not going for free, so no angry letters about WHY ARE OLD MEN WITHOUT BLOGS BEING PAID TO TRAVEL)

2. We are selling our place.

3. We are moving to New Jersey.

4. We will no longer live in Brooklyn. We are doing what we said we wouldn't do.

5. We will live in a house. A nice house. We will live near our friends. We will have a yard and a good school for Henry.

6. But still! We will not live near our other friends! Why do we have to have friends! And also we won't be in Brooklyn!

7. I'm okay. I'm okay. I WILL BE OKAY.

So as you can see: I am not pregnant, nor am I rolling in money from any book deal. Yet.

Well! You are the second person this week I "know" who has announced that she is moving out of Brooklyn.

Now that all the fun people are going, I'm not sure there's reason for me to visit again.

And congrats on Amsterdam! Green...positively green with envy. :-)

ah, I know the sting of leaving Brooklyn, which is, undeniably, the coolest borough. I moved a half-block into Queens and lost my "hip urban" mojo, but honestly, good riddance.

Incidentally, when you move to !!, will the scary "CAUGHT ON TAPE" ad leave your page? Because that dude freaks me out.

Amsterdam - and your in good company.Let that be a reminder that you can still be crazy and wild - even if your migrating to the burbs. I live in the burbs of San Fran and there are days Marc and I are horrified. But then again having good schools - parks to play in - room in our rented house(same price as a one bedroom in the city) well it just is too damn good for the kids. I see our friends struggle in the city - and given that I am an ex New Yorker (east village) who can't take SF seriously - well I don't really get it. Have a great time and email me if you want some Amsterdam tips.

Hey!

I'm from Amsterdam (ages 5-13), New Jersey (ages 14-18), and Brooklyn (ages 22-present)! If you're interested in any Dutch travel tips, I literally wrote a book on the subject! Let me know :)

Also, New Jersey has a whole lot going for it. Honestly, it does. Where I lived--in Somerset County--there were tons of farms (yay apple picking!), parks, and fun public facilities. You will have places to ride your bikes and fresh air to breathe. And the schools I went to were also pretty great--I am getting ready to begin my Ph.D. studies in Music and my high school education provided me an excellent foundation. Really, don't be nervous--you will be close to the city (my parents come in twice a week) and able to visit all you want. Good luck :)

Oooh, I hope you get to stay at the Krasnapolsky. I stayed there last time I was in Amsterdam, and it was lovely. I really enjoyed the breakfast buffet -- muesli and melon and cold cuts and bread. Yum!

x-brooklynite saying: I am exit 7A off of 24.

I am DYING to know if you'll be close to me, you mentioned good schools and that is how my town normally suckers people in, hmmmmm.....

Goos luck with the move.

Just an FYI... I, um, referenced you in my blog post today as one of the cool Amsterdam-going chicks. ;)

You're moving to NJ? To the same area you were looking at before?? B/C that was right near where I live!! Congrats on all the news. I heart Amsterdam. I'm tempted to say not as picturesque as Italy, but no, it was neat in its own right.

I haven't even made it past 'cocktail waitress in men's lounge'. WORST JOB EVER! How much is a 15% tip on a salmon salad sandwich on brown untoasted and my dignity? About a dime as I recall.
