Seven years!
Here's a visual, to help you cry. My baby then:
And now:
I know.
Before I start looking at more pictures of my son as an adorable toddler and spend the rest of the afternoon bawling on the couch, I wanted to say thank you. The last seven years have been action-packed, in both excellent and terrible ways, and through it all you've supported me, cheered me on, and given me a kick in the ass when I needed it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
According to my stats there are many of you who read and never comment. Which is fine, but today, please say hello! Tell me who you are, what brought you to Finslippy, what you're up to, what your favorite cheese is--whatever. I really don't care. I mean, I care, but I'm not going to demand you tell me your life story. But I would welcome hearing your life story! If you felt like writing it. I'll stop now.
As a reward for commenting, you'll be in the running to receive a copy of my friend Jessie Sholl's new book, Dirty Secret. I wrote about Jessie's book on my Redbook blog, but I wanted to do a giveaway here. Dirty Secret is Jessie's story of growing up with a mom who's a hoarder, and it's a doozie of a book. (And yes, I did just write the word "doozie." I couldn't decide between that and "humdinger.") It's funny and harrowing and ultimately uplifting. You will enjoy it! So comment, and a week from today I'll announce the winner.

do you know pinterest? i'm there too (no, i'm not everywhere)! ;)
be happy, alice :)
I've been reading you for... hell, I have no idea. Well over 5 years, possibly 6 or so? I'm not sure. Congratulations on this milestone. You are hilarious, brilliant, and beautiful. And I mean that in the least stalkery way possible.
Oh, and I love me some St. Andre. It's especially good on a lightly toasted baguette.
Hmm, I think I found you through the Infinite Summer blog? Great blog, great writing! Thanks!!
I've been following you almost the whole time. I used to live one block away from you, which I figured out when you wrote a post about one of the clerks at our grocery store. I have intruded on your personal space several times in the real world, and have always walked away feeling like the world was a friendlier place. I used to post as MissWeeze, my real name is Amy, and I am particularly fond of very old Gouda.
I comment sometimes and will do so again right now. :) I don't remember how long I've been reading you, but it's been years. I loved your travel posts and Henry's birth story, especially. Happy 7th! :)
Hi! Not sure how or when I found you but it's been quite some time ago and I'm still here and reading but very rarely commenting.
Well! I was going to comment just because you asked nicely, but then you threw in the book so now I'm afraid you'll think I'm commenting just so I can win it. Not that I don't want to win it, because sounds swell! And your friend wrote it, and I'm sure she's swell too! And hey, who doesn't love books?! Heh. Yeah. I don't have a favorite cheese.
hi - love the toddler photo
happy birthday!!! Long time reader - I am not sure how I came across your blog but I have been hooked since my first visit. My favorite cheese is Blue Cheese. YUMMY!!! Thank you for writing I absolutely enjoy reading what you write.
I think I've been reading your blog for nearly three years...or maybe it's going on three years. I came this way via dooce.com and working as a part-time state employee with nothing to do. So I read all of dooce.com and then read all of your archives (from the beginning to when I think you guys were moving to New Jersey...and then I started reading LookyDaddy and am sad that he doesn't post anymore).
But yeah. Yay for seven years!
Now I am a full-time state employee with some things to do and I like goat cheese cause cow's milk and my tummy don't like each other. And my favorite cheeses come from a dairy not to far from where I live, Sweet Grass Dairy and if you ever happen to see some, you should buy some cause it is delicious!
I'm a longtime RSS lurker - but wanted to say Congrats! Found you years ago from a link on Heather's site, I'm pretty sure.
Here's wishing you another 10 good years!
Hi! I'm a regular reader but rarely comment. I'm commenting today because you asked me too...I'm so nice. : ) I like goat cheese. On a piece of baguette with honey on top -- try it, it will change your life. Happy blog birthday!
I don't remember how I came across your blog, but it was probably linked from some other blog that I found by clicking on a link at that other blog over there. I'm up to my armpits in Disney/Pixar toys these days and I love mozzarella cheese. Although, Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss cheese wedges hold a special place in my heart these days.
The first post I remember reading was one of your odes to Henry's age. I can't remember if it was 3 or 4 but it was funny to me. Especially now that I look back at them having a newly turned 3 year old of my own.
Lookit those delicious baby arms.
While looking for some tax documents recently, my husband and I found the box of saved baby clothes from our now 10-year-old daughter's babyhood. I kept cradling the little outfits like there was a baby inside, remembering the size of her little back while I burped her, her tiny feet and corn nibblet toes.
Babies are precious, but a kid that can wipe its own butt is wonderful.
I've been reading your blog for a couple-ish years. Happy blog anniversary/birthday whatever!
Hi! Happy anniversary. I like pretty much all kinds of cheese.
YAY! Finslippy, I heart your blog. My favorite posts so far are the peanutbutter/penisbutter man. Which I read every once in a while to crack myself up. Also, the imitation of Henry eating the cookie: comic gold. Finally, pictures of your hubby having a pretend board room meeting in the hotel suite.
Can't remember what brought me to Finslippy, but I'm here to stay. Life story, circa 28 years ago I was born, fast forward through some embarrassing teenage angst, braces, mild epiphanies, multiple hangovers, and here I am today. Still hungover, eating cheese of the stinkiest variety because that's how you know it's good.
Happy Blog Birthday. I don't remember when or how I discovered your writing but I can say I thoroughly enjoy it. Thanks for sharing! You make my workdays much brighter. (Oh, did I say that out loud? Of course I don't read your blog while I'm at work, that would be a horibble waste of my employer's time and money!) :)
Congratulations from another silent reader. I believe I found your blog about two years ago, perhaps through momversation? Or via one of the other contributors there. I like manchego, and what're we up to? We just got back from tobogganing. To at least another seven years of finslippy!
You make me laugh and think, you make me wish I could write like you. I stop in often, and I think I found you here not long after I started my own blog in '08. Happy blogginversary!
I'm one of those "has-read-for-many-years-but-has-rarely-commented" folks. I have a daughter exactly one month younger than Henry, and she's our only kiddo (that part wasn't by choice), so I feel a bit of a kindred spirit thing going on. Congratulations on 7 years - that's amazing! Please keep writing and being your inspirational self. I keep trying to blog/ write but I am in a paralyzed state... each time I read one of your blog entries here or anywhere I get all excited and decide to try and write something but then don't. One of these days I just might! How optimistic is that?
Congratulations. I do enjoy reading your site and I'm always happy to see a new post up. Thank you.
I have been reading your blog for several years. I believe I found your blog through a link from Dooce. I don't have children, but your sense of humor resonates with me. Thank you for your latest blog post about exercise. I am currently have some fertility problems and my doctor has strongly suggested exercising more frequently. This is a challenging request for me. I was the girl who gloried in the fact that I managed to graduate from high school without ever having set foot in a PE class. You give me hope that I can find the motivation to get my butt off the couch, even though it is a very comfy couch and my DVR just recorded Downton Abbey.
You've got a humdinger of a blog, I say. Happy Blogiversary!
Happy Blog Birthday!!! I've been reading and lurking for over two years. Love your stories. Love your brilliance. Love you!
