She's a lady

We were going to wait to get another dog, but then we realized that waiting is stupid and dogs are the best. Meet Hazel.

Hazel is between 3 and 5 years of age, so we'll just go ahead and call her 4. She was dumped by some sad fool who failed to recognize that she is a wondrous being with popcorn-scented paws. We got her through a rescue group, and now she is ours and she is the best. They called her a chihuahua mix but we think she's all chihuahua.

Her full name is Hazel Doolittle Bradley-Rosann. Doolittle because her evening gloves belie her coarse beginnings.

I'm a good girl, I am. #hazeldoolittle

We love her a little bit.

The cat now makes this face, all the time.

She'll get over it.

Back to Hazel! All she wants to do is sleep on a lap, or burrow under some covers.

"Good morning, Hazel!" "Nope." #notamorningdog #hazeldoolittle

She is very, very smart. I think she might be the next Oprah.

Congratulations! I bet Charlie would be so glad to know that you are celebrating his memory by giving love and security to a wonderful new family member. :-)

Yay! Waiting IS stupid. When a slot for a dog opens up in your life, you fill it, gosh darn it.

Thank you for adopting an older dog and not a puppy!!! I absolutely love this, and her! She's fabulous.

She's is obviously not all chihuahua. Anyone can see she is part deer.

Hazel most certainly is a lady. Now I want to go visit my local animal shelter.

We thought we might wait too. Or rather, my husband thought we would wait. Our 14.5 year shepherd mix passed on a Thursday and by Tuesday I was calling my husband from the humane society about a dog I wanted him to meet. We picked up our then 3 year old rescue lab mix on Thursday. She's been the best dog ever (not that we don't miss our previous fur baby). Yay for Hazel.

From a long-time reader, happy to read about Hazel. Dogs are the best. Except for cats. Cats are the best. Except for dogs. Dogs are the best. <head explodes>

Thank you for adopting from a rescue. Adopting rescue animals is the best. Really.

I was so sad to read about Charlie when I stopped in last week, but so excited to read about Hazel today. She is a beautiful girl with her fancy opera gloves. Congratulations on finding each other!

Congrats on your beautiful new dog, she's lovely. I was so sad to hear about Charlie but I know he had a wonderful life with you. As an owner of two fabulous Miniature Pinschers (sadly no longer with us), I feel that Hazel might have some Min Pin in her as she reminds me so much of my Heidi. I hope she brings you all lots of joy!

So cute! I am generally a cat lover more than dog, but man this little beauty has won me over with those photos you've posted. Glad she is bringing new joy to your family.
